In Passing

We take note of the passing of Karl Malden. I always thought he was a talented and versatile performer, playing priest (On the Waterfront as counselor to Marlon Brando, The West Wing-- confessor to President Bartlet), policeman (LT Mike Stone in The Streets of San Francisco, mentor to the young Michael Douglas pre-Catherine Zeta-Jones) and soldier (General Omar Bradley in Patton). Malden's career spanned almost 70 years. Long live Mladen Sekulovich!!!!!

Noted on BBC, Fox News, the N Y Times, as well as other web sites----

Palin to Resign as Governor of Alaska

The Times states that Palin would be free to travel more and that she believes she can "effect positive change outside of government." It notes that the governor of Minnesota will not seek re-election so he might pursue other opportunities, including a possible run for the presidency in 2012.

But Sarah is resigning effective the end of July 2009. Her term ends in 2010. Ever since her performance as John McCain's running mate in the failed campaign for president in 2008, Palin has been dogged by allegations of ethics questions and the resignations of key state officials. Given the recent less than stellar performances of other Republican presidential front running possibilities like Senator Ensign and Governor Sanford, don't be too surprised if there's a little more to this story than is being bandied about this Independence Day weekend. And MSNBC has a Lock-Up marathon scheduled---they did break in for this so maybe they are a news channel.......

I agree. I think we will learn more in the next few days. It's my understanding Alaska is going to be facing some tough days ahead, that it's a real mess. I'm quite sure there's more to come on this one.

Is there another scandal looming or is Sarah gearing up for a run for the White House? Shiver. Then again, imagine the entertainment value of a Palin/Obama debate.

Several weeks ago I heard a commentator on Morning Joe refer to the reflublican party as "male, pale and stale".

Sarah is going to change all that. She's not male, she's not really all that pale (I think she frequents a tanning salon at least once a day) and her material is anything but stale, considering all of the comic relief she's provided us during these difficult economic times.

What if, for some reason, Obama doesn't seek a second term and let's say a democratic senator from Minnesota runs... imagine a Palin/Franken debate! That'd provide us with enough one-liners to last us for the rest of our days.

As I indicated in a previous post entitled "Fictions", maybe there's more going on in the upper echelons of the Republican party than they care to admit.

Or less than they care to admit. How else do we logically explain someone like Palin becoming a GOP "star"? The reflubican genepool of stars is fascinatingly vapid. Are they just throwing us off the scent with all these scandals? Have they got a secret star hiding under a blanket somewhere, sequestered away from attractive young women, and they're going to reveal him in the fall of 2011... will he be one more family-values-horndog in a long line of family-values-horndogs or a viable candidate who knows how to focus on the job at hand?

Only Midshipman Bertie knows for sure but he's too busy doing the humpty hump to reveal his secrets at this juncture. hmmmmmm... is Bertie a republican?

Perhaps the time for an exploratory committee for a Pirate Dog candidate has come---Not sure a midshipman has the experience to serve as Commander-in-Chief however. Maybe the Captain??
